To: mw-raves@taz.hyperreal.com You should all remember, be right after ufo this past weekend, there was a small thread about a news story that ran on a Madison news program (I think it was channel 15 news). Well, my friend happened to tape it, so I copied what was said for everyone you might want to know. Here it is: News Lady (didn't catch the name): "It may be rave amoung young people, but it has people in Columbus raving mad.." ".. About 1500 people showed up last night for an all night party called a rave. Area low enforcement knew about it, but failed to forewarn residents. An unidentified foreign object is upsetting many people in Columbus. It's called a rave, and it attracted about 1500 people to this warehouse just outside city limits. They called last nights rave, u.f.o., featuring a form of music called techno house." Pete Goldman: "We rented the warehouse, it was an insured event.." News Lady: "Goldman says no alcohol or drugs were allowed, and Dodge County Authorities monitored the party, complimenting him on how well behaved the crowd was, but after a pizza delivery person had some money stolen while he dropped off an order, some residents became frightened." Dave Nelson (concerned citizen): "The person or persons who set this up, the people who own the warehouse, set this up and put this community at a grave rist." News Lady: "Nelson and other residents alerted the mayor, and told him of the gathering. They said they found beer cans around the area, and found it disturbing that so many people from Chicago, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee were in thier midst." Jow Marks (Mayor): "We don't want to see transient type.. ahh.. groups coming into local communities. Be it Columbus, or other communities in the area. Ahh.. we're not against people obviously having a good time and entertaining, but to who's expense." News Lady: "Goldman has organized several raves in Madison, and contends it's a harmless event. In fact, last night, as part of the 15 dollar admission, people donated cans of nonperishable good items to help feed the hungry." Pete Goldman: "It's a supervised environment. They can't go out, they can't get into any trouble. I mean, there are security guards there, there is no trouble. You're just there to dance." News Lady: "Goldman sadys that Columbus is an ideal spot for a rave, and would consider it for furture techno gatherings. Earthlings living in town say though that they'll fight that one every step of the way. Mayor Marks says he asked the Dodge County Sheriffs Department to invest- igate to see if Goldman violated any terms of the agreement the two had for the event." Well, that's it. I'm going to be getting the address for the Dodge County Sheriffs Department tonight to send them a nice letter, and I'll post that when I have it, for anyone else who might want to send something.
